Multi-entity models of resource description in the Semantic Web: A comparison of FRBR, RDA and BIBFRAME
نویسندگان
چکیده
Bibliographic description in emerging library standards is embracing a multi-entity model that describes varying levels of abstraction from the conceptual work to the physical item. Three of these multi-entity models have been published as vocabularies using the Semantic Web standard Resource Description Framework (RDF): FRBR, RDA, and BIBFRAME. The authors test RDF data based on the three vocabularies using common Semantic Web-enabled software. The analysis demonstrates that the intended data structure of the models is not supported by the RDF vocabularies. In some cases this results in undesirable incompatibilities between the vocabularies, which will be a hindrance to interoperability in the open data environment of the Web.

RDA Element Sets and RDA Value Vocabularies: Vocabularies for Resource Description in the Semantic Web
Considering the need for metadata standards suitable for the Semantic Web, this paper describes the RDA Element Sets and the RDA Value Vocabularies that were created from attributes and relationships defined in Resource Description and Access (RDA). First, we present the vocabularies included in RDA Element Sets: the vocabularies of classes, of properties and of properties unconstrained by FRBR...
متن کاملConceptualizations of the Cataloging Object: A Critique on Current Perceptions of FRBR Group 1 Entities
Libraries face a double challenge in the digital age: both the describing framework and the describing object are under change. FRBR attempts to generate a coherent theory and yield a new Paradigm of cataloging. This study deploys current conceptualizations of the FRBR Group 1 entities within the FRBR models family with a view to semantic interoperability. FRBR cannot be considered as simple me...
متن کاملThe Future of Serials in a Linked Data World
Serials, from a cataloging, search, and retrieval point of view, are currently described and accessed via metadata records. Each record is tied to the title of the journal, newspaper, or magazine. The record might cover a range of years for that publication under its current title, or it might cover the current iteration and previous titles. But in our libraries, to find a serial we look for th...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
متن کاملQuery Architecture Expansion in Web Using Fuzzy Multi Domain Ontology
Due to the increasing web, there are many challenges to establish a general framework for data mining and retrieving structured data from the Web. Creating an ontology is a step towards solving this problem. The ontology raises the main entity and the concept of any data in data mining. In this paper, we tried to propose a method for applying the "meaning" of the search system, But the problem ...
